Happy New Year!

It’s 2010–can you believe it?  Not so long ago we were learning to begin the year’s date with a 2 instead of a 1, and now we’re trying to figure out what to call the next decade.  Wow.

Whether you are back in the classroom or enjoying your last l-o-n-g semester break, we hope your year is off to a refreshing start. Take some time to relax and enjoy before classes begin.

Maybe you even have time to read a non-required book just for fun?!  I am working on Say You’re One of Them by Uwem Akpan.  It’s an amazing collection of five narratives, each told from a child’s perspective and set in a different African country.  I’m also beginning Mary Karr’s memoir, The Liars’ Club. It’s the first of three…the third, Lit, is getting all the current raves, but I wanted to start at the beginning.

What did you read/what are you planning to read over winter break?  Please share with us. There’s still time, plus we can always look ahead to those spring breaks!

Stay warm,

  1. I’ve been reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It is about about two maids in the south who work together with a journalist to tell their stories during the 1960’s. Definitely an interesting and enjoyable read!
